Join DVAC

The Dumont Volunteer Ambulance Corps is always actively seeking new members. Our membership is a very diverse group of people, from all different backgrounds and professions.

Anyone over the age of 16 1/2 is welcome to apply, including those with no prior experience or training. While having some form of previous medical experience is obviously useful, it is not necessary. We were all inexperienced and new to the field at one time. Most of our members joined with little-to-no medical knowledge, but through our training process, each of them has become a respected medical professional.

Apart from being caring and empathetic, prospective members must be mature and emotionally strong enough to face the challenges of EMS. While these aspects of EMS may be frightening to some, the special type of person that enters the field will find the ability to make a difference in someone's life to be a very rewarding experience.

DVAC members must also be willing to learn and have fun. Being able to have fun allows each member to enjoy the exciting field of EMS. Members seldom regret joining the DVAC and most decide to stay with the Corps for many years. Your experiences and the friends you will make as a member of the DVAC are things that you will never forget.

Things DVAC can offer YOU:

* 100% Free training, certification, and continuing education classes
* A rewarding way to give back to your community
* An opportunity to help others in a truly meaningful way
* Advancement of your knowledge in the medical field, as you become a respected medical professional
* The opportunity to become a part of our tight-knit DVAC family
* ...and more!

As a member of the DVAC you will be required to complete an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) course at an accredited state facility. The course consists of two evenings a week and a few weekend classes. Active members must renew their certification every three years through a process of continuing education.

The DVAC has an obligation to its patients and the citizens of Dumont to provide only the best in patient care. To accomplish this, the Membership Committee utilizes a four-step process to ensure that only the highest caliber people are recruited as members.
1. A completed application, submitted by the prospective member for review by the committee
2. A limited background investigation
3. A personal interview, conducted by the committee with the applicant and/or his or her family
4. All findings reviewed and a recommendation submitted to the Corps

A medical examination is required of every applicant before being considered for Probationary Membership.

The DVAC does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, sex, religion, or political beliefs but does reserve the right to deny membership based on an applicant's inability to meet the criteria established by the Corps.
